The second edition of the tourist entertainment program ALLGARVE’08, promoted by Turism of Portugal and Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), arises from the 2nd May 2008 to the 2nd November 2008, and it presents a strong Musical Events program, cultural, sportive, gastronomic and social entertainment.
Artists as Lou Reed, Simply Red, Caetano Veloso, Diana Krall, Vanessa da Mata and Mariza, Heads the Allgarve Edition concerts, which this year has an extended and diversified musical program, with 12 concerts in total, which will promote much more the region as a cosmopolitan destination.
Beyond the Contemporaneous art and architecture events, coordinated by the Serralves Foundation, and by the Contemporaneous Art Museum, which integrate as well the PhotoEspaña exhibition, an event with international prestige, the Allgarve’08 program includes the major Jazz Festival carried at the moment in Portugal and the first transversal to one region – The Algarve Jazz Festival.
This festival has confirmed presences of Lucky Peterson (Portimão), Herbie Hancock (Loulé), Dee Dee Bridgewater (Albufeira),Maria João and Mario Laginha (Sagres), Manhattan Transfer (Portimão) and Patti Austin (Lagoa), consagrated musics in the Jazz World, who will proportion “experience that marks” the tourists.
This year edition, which integrate a larger events number – 65 in total – and a more extended calendar, includes innovations as well, in presenting a music specially made to the Allgarve’08, interpreted by Rui Reninho and by Armando Teixeira (Popular as Bullet and Balla), and will follow all event program promotion.
The gastronomy is another innovation of this second edition of the Allgarve, with the particular distinction to the Sardines Festival in Portimão and the shellfish festival in Olhão, which counts with the participation of the gastronomic José Bentes dos Santos who will present new ways of cooking traditional Portuguese products.
In the sportive program, the Allgarve’08 starts and closes with strong events. From the 2nd to the 4th May, was the Portugal award of motonautica / Algarve F1, in Arade River estuary, in Portimão, one of the most respected demonstrations in this variety, which integrate the world championship. The big award of Portugal in Super Bikes, from the 31st October to the 2nd November, at the international automobile race track of Algarve, in Portimão, close the Allgarve program.
They are foreseen as well various international golf demonstrations: the Nations goblet, at Vale de Lobo, in September, the Portugal Ladies Open integrated in the European Golf Circuit, at Quinta da Ria, in June, and the Portugal Masters, at Oceânico Victória Clube de Golfe, in Vilamoura, in October, considered one of the most important tournament the variety, with a money prize of Three millions Euros.
The Portugal Sail trophy, a demonstration of the Kytesurf world circuit, the Portimão Windsurfing World Championships 2008, The Portugal Rally and the world championship of Powerboat complete the Sportive event program, foreseen for the Allgarve’08 edition.
The social animation program made to the Algarve includes the Medieval Fair of Silves, The sasha Summer session Party, at Praia da Rocha, in Portimão, the medievals days in Castro Marim and the Algarve white night in Loulé.
This year, the Allgarve’08 presents as well a new type of financial share, which includes the Turismo de Portugal, The municipals Councils and private entities, as hotels or marinas.
The revenues from the ticket sales of the Allgarve Edition concerts will revert to social solidarity institutions with projects in the Algarve region, as Acreditas, Associação Novo Futuro, Existir, Casa dos Rapazes de Faro, Unir, Refúgio Aboim Ascenção, Associaçãos Prtuguesa de Parelesia Cerebral (Algarve nucleus) and Sic Esperança.

The Algarve, was chosen the Best European golf destination

The Algarve won the award of the country with the best golf courses in the Europe on the Golf Magazine Awards 2008 event. “Quality, variety, the courses natural environment and the climate”, were some of the factors which influenced the online Golf Magazine readers to choose the Algarve as the best European golf destination, going beyond Majorca and the west Irish coast.
The prize was given to the ATA (Algarve Tourism Association) vice-president, Christopher Stilwell at the Golf Magazine Awards 2008 ceremony, which took place at Kölner Rheinterassen in Colony: “We are very proud of this distinction, mainly because it was the result of a public voting. With this prize, Algarve consolidates its position as THE golf destination and we are very pleased for the technical and natural characteristics of our courses satisfy the golfer’s needs”, Christopher Stilwell has commented.
Remember that in 2007, the Algarve was distinguished with the prize of “The Best Golf Destination in the World”, by the German publication – Rheingolf Magazine.
